Cambridge, MA – The Cambridge Fire Department, along with the Cambridge and Transit Police and Pro EMS, responded to a vehicle crash with injury at the top level of the Alewife MBTA Parking Garage earlier this afternoon. According to images of the incident, the vehicle was left hanging over the edge of the structure.

As a precautionary measure, the Alewife MBTA Station has been CLOSED and will remain closed pending a full structural and safety evaluation by engineers who are en route to the scene.

Transit police have confirmed that the driver’s actions were intentional, but no further information is being released at this time. No charges have been announced and the driver was transported to a local hospital per sources.

As a result of the station closure, the MBTA has shuttle buses that will run between the Davis and Alewife stations. The MBTA Transit Police reminds passengers that the Alewife Station and its parking garage will also remain closed until further notice. The MBTA advises passengers to plan accordingly and use shuttle buses or alternative transportation options.
